Though I am here with good news. I will be relaunching my blog, whilst not as fast as I maintained it during 2010, but I will attempt to get in a minimum of at least 2 film reviews per month. As for the Video Of The Week, I’ll leave that up to you, my audience, whether or not you would care to see it return (please feel free to comment). Additionally, I will be maintaining a nonchalant approach to my blog, I can see that during 2010, what started as a means of expression became a chore. A lot has changed in a year, including myself, and whilst I am now busy with a multitude of projects, I will be actively attempting to keep this blog fully updated.

Now if any of you have been in contact outside of my blog, you very well may know about the Halo film that’s being made. No, not by Peter Jackson, but by a dedicated team of Halo fans who also happen to be very skilled at what they do, in order to create Halo: Faith. Now this is no ordinary film, a hard-working band of brothers (by gaming preferences) have come together with highly skilled professionals who have worked on the likes of  ’Avatar’, ‘The Hulk’, and ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe’ to create an intense, revolutionary live-action fan-film of one of the largest gaming franchises in the world.

Now I have the luxury of working on the project, I’m the International Promotions Coordinator, developing the promotional artwork (see above) for the project and I can tell you that it is going to be absolutely huge. If you would like to know more information, you can check out the Halo: Faith Facebook page. Now posters aren’t the only things I bring with me today. We at Halo: Faith are going all out, especially on our soundtrack, which has been produced by two very fantastic composers, Giancarlo Feltrin & Daniel Ciurlizza. Here is a sample of one of the songs from the soundtrack and I can only hope it makes you as excited as it does me. You can also find more songs from the Halo: Faith OST here and here.

Now I’m sure you may be wondering when you’re going to get to see it (that is if you haven’t already glanced at my posters). You’ll be pleased to know that you can see it on November 20th, 2011. Just days after the release of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. Halo: Faith will be having a limited theatrical release, meaning it will play in theatres at select locations, however the film itself is also being released in association with Machinima and can be found on YouTube as well as on their website. The film will be available to download in beautiful 1080p, for all those HD-junkies (like myself).  Now finally, if you would like to get an insight in to my brain, or for that matter anyone else’s working on Halo: Faith, you can go on over to Sikdailymags to read exclusive interviews with cast and crew members.

There have been many attempts throughout the history of the film industry where a director has strived to bring the life, energy and charm of a comic book to the silver screen. Most fail at such a hardship; the rare few succeed, and even fewer do so with deserving recognition. Director and producer Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun Of The Dead, A Fistful Of Fingers) however, looks to have successfully pulled off the task and extremely well it seems with his newest project, “Scott Pilgrim VS. The World.“

Everything is totally sweet. Scott Pilgrim’s life is awesome. He’s 23 years old, in a rock band, “between jobs,” and dating a high school girl. Everything’s fantastic until a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, rollerblading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. But the path to Ms. Flowers isn’t covered in rose petals. Ramona’s seven evil exes stand between Scott and true happiness. Can Scott defeat all seven of the bad guys and get the girl without turning his precious little life upside-down, before the game is over?

No film is without its faults, but ‘Scott Pilgrim VS. The World‘ doesn’t have many, Wright has been frequently described as a mash-up artist, bringing refreshing and unique films to our screens, so it’s no surprise when I can say that ‘Scott Pilgrim VS. The World’ is his finest hybridization to date. Having combined action and comedy with romance and a wave of originality, Wright brings something new and somewhat inspiring to the table with enough novel quirkiness to satisfy both genders. The film is littered with easter eggs and references a plenty, many of which aimed at the Nintendo generations, and just the right amount of wit combined with Wright’s special blend of comedic sauce which fans will recognise from his previous works.

Nevertheless it’s not just the comical trices and gaming references which grant ‘Scott Pilgrim VS. The World‘ it’s charisma, but also the involved performances of many of its stars. Both protagonists, Michael Cera (Arrested Development, Superbad, Juno) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Make It Happen, Die Hard 4.0, Final Destination 3) who play Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers respectively give dedicated performances and acts as a sturdy base on which the plot is built. With the quick introduction of Scott’s gay room-mate: Wallace Wells (Kieran Culkin – The Mighty, Father Of The Bride, Igby Goes Down),  Scott’s somewhat talebearing sister Stacy Pilgrim, (Anna Kendrick – Up In The Air, Rocket Science, The Twilight Saga)  and Stephen Stills, (Mark Webber – Snow Day, Shrink, Weapons) the lead singer in Scott’s band ‘The Sex Bob-Ombs‘, the atmosphere soon hastens into a humorous but heartfelt one, providing an icing to the already unshakable proverbial cake.

It’s fair to say that ‘Scott Pilgrim VS. The World‘, like many films, wouldn’t be what it is without its soundtrack. The film relies heavily on its music as an important element to reach out to the audience as an important and vital chunk of Scott’s life is spent in a band. The soundtrack features some fantastic music from the likes of Nigel Godrich, Beck, Metric, Broken Social Scene, Cornelius, Dan the Automator, Kid Koala, and David Campbell, with various songs, even some original material being performed by the fictitious bands within the film.  Overall, ‘Scott Pilgrim VS. The World‘ is a fantastical, quirky film with an unfortunately confined fanbase, it’s most definitely worth seeing, even if it’s not for everyone, but personally speaking, it’s one of the best films of 2010.

‘Cop Out’ features two NYPD partners on the trail of a stolen, ultra-rare, mint-condition baseball card who find themselves up against a merciless, baseball-obsessed gangster. stoic macho man Jimmy (Bruce Willis – Die Hard, 12 Monkeys, The Fifth Element) is the veteran detective whose missing baseball card is his only hope to pay for his daughter’s upcoming wedding, and Paul (Tracy Morgan - SNL, 30 Rock, Death At A Funeral) is Jimmy’s “partner-against-crime” whose preoccupation with his wife’s alleged infidelity makes it hard for him to keep his eye on the ball.

With the likes of Adam Brody (Mr. & Mrs. Smith,Thank You for Smoking, Jennifer’s Body), Kevin Pollak (Ricochet, End Of Days, A Few Good Men) and Seann William Scott (Dude, Where’s My Car?, American Pie, Role Models), starring alongside Willis and Morgan whose chemistry is capitalized throughout the film and all of whom give fantastic performances, insures ‘Cop Out’  to be a laugh and a half. With a stable pace, plot line and cameos from those such as Jason Lee (My Name Is Earl, Vanilla Sky, Alvin & The Chipmunks) and Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Eurotrip, 17 Again) I’d say it’s well worth watching and certainly recommended!

Or sort of anyway, as you may have been aware I haven’t updated my blog in a good month, ideally I feel I needed this break, a sort of ‘recuperation period’ but fear not, my disappearance was due to a variety of factors. Due to circumstances which will ultimately effect the next few years of my life, I have been hunting for work. Yes, I’ve been hunting! Going around to employers with a crossbow strapped to my back so they might be slightly more inclined to choose me over my fellow applicants! Quite a sight, believe me.

On top of this, I have been doing extensive literary and scientific background research for my science fiction novel which I have started writing after a horrible case of writer’s block. (I suppose this could be another reason for my lack of written work lately.) The novel has been in the works for quite a while actually and up till now, I’ve only made notes and plans. This is a monumental occasion for me, as it’s the start of something big. If you’d like to know more, just send me an e-mail and I’ll consider posting updates on the blog in the future!

But for those of you who are missing the ‘Video Of The Week,’ you can relax, I’ll catch up on everything that hasn’t been posted and will continue to write film reviews and quite possibly expand out to game, television and music reviews more frequently. I may not be posting as often as I was before, but I will be posting on a weekly basis, minimum. On a final note, over the coming weeks and months you may well see more and more art as I’ve seemed to restocked on creative fluids lately.
